Mario Morin

Mario Morin grew up in San Antonio, Texas.  His mother, a former flamenco dancer and majorette, had a tremendous influence on him.  He didn't have formal training, but got his "education" watching and imitating John Travolta, Tim Conway, Jerry Lewis, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Bill Cosby, Sherman Hemsley, John Ritter, Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, and Lucille Ball.  He was bitten by the showbiz bug at age three, entertaining himself and anyone who would pay attention by doing backflips on an old mattress in the backyard, and by jumping off the mantle in his living room.  His first "shows", musical variety acts created and performed by Mario and his cousins, were the hit of their family gatherings.

He learned many skills from his friends in San Antonio, including breakdancing and acrobatics.  He was often seen on the local dance club TV show, Jammin', which gave him a glimpse of life as a performer.  He began his career with SeaWorld of Texas, working with choreographer Scott Conway.  He got a break in 1990 when he and fellow dancer Leonard Lopez traveled to Los Angeles as finalists on Buscando Estrellas, the Spanish version of StarSearch.   Soon after, he landed the role of Mark in

A Chorus Line at San Antonio's Josephine Theatre.

Mario was discovered by Opryland Productions in 1991. Choreographers Jean Whittaker and Jeannie Sloane-Newton cast him in numerous productions in their Tennessee and Texas venues and finally at the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  He was featured dancer and dance captain there for six years, during which time he met and married Lucinda.

Mario began to sharpen his comedy chops in Charleston, South Carolina in "Swing Into Spring", where director Brad Moranz taught him the finer points of being a goofball on stage.   He continued his journey of dance and laughter on Holland America and Celebrity Cruises, in The Magic of Christmas (a second Moranz show), and in Carnival International at Fiesta Texas.  He soared to new heights in the show Circo Magnifico as a gymnast and bungee aerialist.

In 2001, Mario and Lucinda joined the American Music Theatre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Mario's crazy antics, as well as his characters Stanley and Slow Poke drew much laughter and joy from AMT audiences during his four-year stint in Pennsylvania.

Mario has worked with Showstopper Dance Competition as a master class instructor, choreographer, and announcer and as Master of Ceremonies for the Showstopper National Dance Championships TV Show.

Mario is an aspiring photographer and is constantly working on one project or another, from CD covers and headshots for his coworkers to DVDs of family memories and websites. He's a PlayStation2/PSP fanatic, enjoys golfing, and is a MAJOR fan of the 2007 World Champion San Antonio Spurs!  GO SPURS GO!

Mario thanks his Mother, Olga Kypuros, for her love and guidance.  In addition to his mom, Mario credits his success to the influence of his siblings, Freddie and Monique.   He is grateful to his wonderful family for their years of patience and support.  He thanks everyone who has helped him in his career.
